A Day of "Firsts"

Lydia had a very busy Wednesday getting introduced to the world. We ate at Olive Garden for her Grandpa's 50th birthday then we went to the mall to get him a present. After that we went to visit Aunt Susan so she could take pictures of Lydia to show her lifegroup. Will and Alisa came over with Liam and brought us dinner...her first date!! After she ate we gave her her first bath, which she did not enjoy very much at all. She must have enjoyed her day and been very worn out because she finally slept in her bassinette! So relaxing...

Life with Lydia

Okay...so I don't have much to say except for I probably have the cutest baby in the entire world and I want to put some pictures of her on my blog!!

Lydia and Grandpa...
HOW HILARIOUS?!!

So I also had sworn against using pacifiers...what can I say?? They work!!

1st trip to Grandpa and Annie's...

She really is this sweet ALL the time!

The best neighbors in the world...they love her too!!

It is crazy that at just 4 days old she stayed this awake. She had just fed for almost and hour and then she was wide awake in Great-Grandma's arms for another hour. We can't believe she is so beautiful!! What a blessing from above...

Coming Home

We came home Sunday...just two days after our precious Lydia made it into the world! I got so emotional on the ride home. I just couldn't quit crying- more like sobbing. Necon was so worried I was unhappy and didn't like the new baby. I think everything just hit me at once. We were so unprepared for "the moment" when it happened and we just kind of soldiered through the whole experience at the hospital. We had a really tough first night trying to get her to sleep in the bassinette, so on just the second night home I broke one of our rules we made: no sleeping in the bed. We all slept so wonderfully I didn't even feel bad about it. (Sorry JoEllyn...I know I am disappointing!!) She also got her first bottle (breastmilk of course!) because Mommy was in too much pain to breastfeed. I finally broke down and started taking the serious pain meds. Hopefully the bassinette issue will resolve soon and we will all get good sleep...I'm not holding my breath.

Our Wonderful Nurses: Stacy and Marie

She very thankfully LOVES her carseat!!

Mommy is exhausted from all the crying...Lydia just enjoying her favorite sleep spot!!

Daddy LOVES his girl...she doesn't seem to mind him either!!

It took a few minutes, but the first bottle feed went really well

Lydia was screaming and we couldn't get her to calm down. We had one of the music channels playing on the TV to try to get her to settle down and eat. All of the sudden she was silent and eating away. We looked up at the TV and the song playing was called "Lydia"!!! Crazy huh??

She's here!!

We got up and followed our normal Thursday morning routines thinking August 23rd was going to be just that...normal. Little did we know we were in for a big surprise! I woke up feeling horrible, but then again I was 38 weeks pregnant, swollen beyond belief (and recognition...) and to make it all better it was 800 degrees outside. Despite a fairly easy patient load in the nursery I kept feeling worse and worse and then the headache started. It was awful! I knew my blood pressure must be going up. After 3 or 4 really high pressures I called Dr. Wendel and left a message with the nurse. About 2pm they called back and told me to go to labor and delivery for "prolonged monitoring." No matter what we did my blood pressure would not go down to normal, so at 6pm the decision was made to admit me for delivery. I'm thinking "delivery of what??" We were so not ready for this!! Literally...we weren't ready. I had to call my mother and talk to her on the phone for an hour telling her what to pack and where it was and what we still hadn't gotten and could she please hurry!!! It was out of control. During the "prolonged monitoring" phase of our eventful day they saw that I was having fairly normal contractions so they decided to try an induction...17 hours later I was still not making ANY progress towards "delivery" so they called me a "failed induction" and informed us we would be having a C-Section. We were freaking out!! All we were trying to do was to go to work, do our jobs and make it to the weekend so we could clean our house and finish getting ready for out baby to come. Now we hadn't been home, hadn't showered, hadn't eaten in over 36 hours, I hadn't even gotten my hair colored for all of the pictures!! So of course...I CRIED!! Before we knew it we were back in the OR listening to our precious little Lydia crying away!!
